~Greece Canal Park~
Parks and recreation are a fun thing to explore in any town. In the town of Greece our personal favorite is the Greece Canal Park.  Home to plenty of great resources like soccer fields, baseball diamonds, tennis courts, playgrounds and even youth camping grounds;  this 577 acres park offers many different options to get outdoors!  Greece Canal Park located off of Elmgrove Road. This great park has two lodges and one shelter; perfect to enjoy a special event. 
~Charlotte Beach~
With Charlotte Beach within it's grasp, Greece residents enjoy the many great things that waterside living offers.  From boating to volleyball, Greece residents enjoy "fun in the sun" any time they please! Charlotte Beach is also home to many local restaurants, bars, and of course Abbott's Frozen Custard!  One of our family's  fondest memories are of relaxing at the beach in Charlotte  and visiting the beautiful Carousel and expansive playground.

The Town of Greece has always made us feel at home.  This largely developed suburb has great school systems, town resources such as parks and play yards.  Great shopping opportunities like The Greece Ridge Mall and many local shops.  An abundance of choices for groceries such as: Wegmans, Tops, Aldi's and even several small convience shops.  The Town of Greece even has a public market held in the Greece Town Mall.   


    


Historical Changes to this New York Town
One of the largest towns in New York state.  This beautiful area is home to many great natural resources and has historically began as an agricultural resource for our great town.  Established in  1822 the town of Greece is steeped in history. It's official flag was adopted at a town meeting in 1954.  First home to the Seneca Indians this town is said to first be discovered by French explorer Lasalle in 1669.  The first permanent settlement was established in 1792 along the west side of the Genesee River. 
President Thomas Jefferson paved the way for the development of the town of Greece when he established the port system.  This played a large role in the town of Greece's agriculture industry. Home to and abundance of farm markets and Nurseries even today Greece's agricultural background has not disappeared with time.  Trade from the Great Lakes began to bring a new source of opportunity for this area.  Access from Lake Ontario, the Genesee River Ridge Road and the Erie canal.  These sources of travel started the trade industry of Greece. 

            Formally named as North Hampton, this area was renamed Greece, in large part because of a strong feeling of sympathy for the Greek people, who had been struggling for independence from the Turkish oppression.  Another interesting fact is the changes in the affiliation with the popular lake community known as Charlotte.  This village was formed in 1869 and had been part of the Town of Greece until 1916.  Charlotte is home to one of the greatest natural resources our city offers; Lake Ontario.  Charlotte beach is a place that most Rochesterians visit annually for its great access to the large lake.  Home to restaurants, boating, beach activities and so much more!  


Job opportunities and Shifts in Economy

Home to Eastman Kodak Headquarter offices and overall operations since the company's inception. The Town of Greece played a large role in the development of the industrial city that Rochester had become and was for generations.  This film giant made Greece's agricultural base begin to pale in comparison to the opportunities that the global company once offered our area.  Unfortunately, due largely to a shift in the film industry, this company began to change it's business model and overall need for local employment.  The slow shift in this company has begun to offer entrepreneurial opportunities to other companies as the continued evolution of Kodak unfolds.
